En fotografie serie om morsinstinkt, knyttet til darkroom-saken, en stor etterforsning som avslørte et enormt pedofil nettverk i og utenfor Norge. Hva gjør du om du står ansikt til ansikt med noen som misbruker barn? Ofte kan mødre i populærkultur framstilles svake, myke, sårbare, men de følelsene som blusser opp når man leser om slike saker er langt ifra dette. Morsinstinkt er som et nært voldelig raseri, som en ustoppelig kraft, en tornado. Når man møter en bjørn med barn må man komme seg vekk. I denne serien inviterte jeg mødre til å utforske morsinstinktet, åpne opp for å vise det på bilde. Fotografiene er printet på store flagg og vil til slutt danne en flaggborg. A photography series about maternal instinct, linked to the darkroom case, a major investigation that revealed a huge pedophile network in and outside Norway. What do you do if you come face to face with someone who abuses children? Mothers in popular culture can often be portrayed as weak, soft, vulnerable, but the feelings that flare up when you read about such matters are far from this. Maternal instinct is like a near violent rage, like an unstoppable force, a tornado. When you meet a bear with children you have to get away. In this series I invited mothers to explore the maternal instinct, open up to show it in pictures. The photographs are printed on large flags and will eventually form a flag fortress. The project was started in 2018 but has not been completed. So far, 6 photographs and 5 flags have been produced. De politiske folkedraktene fotograferes med kvinner plassert i føde scenario rundt omkring i Norges land. Steder man kanskje aldri har hørt om, små steder, vekk fra nærmeste sykehus. I bildene ligger en historie, et ille varsel og bygger på en dystopisk fremtid (eller nåtid). Samtidig er det nesten komisk med en fødende dame på Toten-Bygda som prater i telefon. De første tre fotografiene og draktene ble vist på gruppeutstillingen SIAMESISK i 2019 på Oppland kunstsenter men målet er å ferdigstille flere drakter og fotografier. Formatet på kunst-serien har til nå vært et fotografi-en folkedrakt men det ligger også i kortene at flere bilder med samme drakt er aktuelle å vise, enten i bokform eller serie. Det tar tid å produsere de politiske folkedraktene og det krever research og materiale. Places you may never have heard of, small places, away from the nearest hospital. The pictures contain a story, a bad omen and are based on a dystopian future (or present). At the same time, it is almost comical with a woman giving birth in Toten-countryside talking on the phone. The first three photographs and the costumes were shown at the group exhibition SIAMESE in 2019 at Oppland art centre, but the aim is to complete more costumes and photographs. Til tross for at føde-tallene i Norge går ned øker fødslene utenfor institusjon. I Norge fødes det litt over 55 000 barn hvert år. Mellom 400 og 500 av disse blir født uplanlagt i ambulanser, taxier, privatbiler eller på badegulvet i eget hjem. Siden 70-tallet er 110 føde-institusjoner lagt ned. 45 fødetilbud står igjen. Totalt ble det registrert 464 fødsler utenfor institusjon. Despite the fact that the number of births in Norway is falling, births outside institutions are increasing. Born in Norway just over 55,000 children each year. Kunstformidling og workshop i forbindelse med minneutstillingen til Tina Mareen Buddeberg I forbindelse med minneutstillingen til kunstneren Tina Mareen Buddeberg ved Kunstbanken senter for samtidskunst i 2022 utviklet og gjennomførte Mailind Solvind Mjøen et kunstformidlingsopplegg og en workshop for 7. trinn i Hamar kommune. Formidlingsdelen tok utgangspunkt i Buddebergs kunstnerskap og livsvalg. Elevene ble introdusert til hennes kunst gjennom en samtalebasert omvisning i utstillingen, der sentrale temaer i arbeidet hennes ble løftet frem: forholdet til naturen, dyrene, sirkelen som symbol på kretsløp og evighet, og betydningen av å følge egne drømmer. Buddeberg flyttet fra Oslo til Sollia i Stor-Elvdal for å skape sitt eget sted – Drømmedalen – hvor hun levde og arbeidet tett på naturen og dyrene rundt seg. Denne historien ble brukt som inngang til en samtale med elevene om kunst, livsvalg og hva det vil si å følge en indre drivkraft. Etter omvisningen deltok elevene i en workshop der de selv fikk arbeide med temaet drømmer. Hver elev fikk velge en gjennomsiktig plastkule – en liten «verden» – som kunne åpnes. Inne i kulen la de en papirlapp med sin egen drøm eller et ønske for fremtiden. Dette var hemmelig. Kulene ble deretter dekorert med klistremerker og visuelle elementer valgt av elevene selv. Til slutt ble alle kulene samlet og hengt opp i rommet som en felles installasjon. Til sammen dannet rundt 350 kuler et stort univers av individuelle drømmer. Installasjonen ble vist i Kunstbankens utstillingsvindu og var også tilgjengelig for publikum. Prosjektet tok utgangspunkt i Buddebergs egne tanker om kunst, natur og livsvalg, og videreførte hennes engasjement for barn og unge. Utgangspunktet for verkstedet er en gjennomsiktig julekule som fungerer som en liten modell av en egen verden eller «planet». Gjennom arbeidet med kulen reflekterer deltakerne over egne drømmer og ønsker for fremtiden. Før den visuelle delen av arbeidet begynner, oppfordres deltakerne til å formulere en personlig drøm eller et håp på en liten papirlapp. Dette kan være alt fra konkrete ønsker til mer åpne forestillinger om hvem de ønsker å bli, hvordan livet deres kan se ut, eller hvilke verdier de ønsker for verden rundt seg. Den praktiske delen av verkstedet består i å male innsiden av kulen med akrylfarger. Ved å arbeide på innsiden av objektet skapes et fargelag som gir kulen et eget visuelt landskap og gjør den til en liten, lukket verden. Når kulen er ferdig malt og tørket, plasseres drømmelappen inne i den, slik at kulen rommer både et visuelt uttrykk og en personlig fortelling. Prosjektet kombinerer refleksjon og skapende arbeid, og gir deltakerne mulighet til å utforske hvordan kunst kan fungere som et rom for tanker, håp og forestillinger om fremtiden. Når mange «planeter» samles sammen, oppstår samtidig et felles univers av individuelle drømmer, der hver deltaker bidrar med sin egen verden. Verkstedet tar utgangspunkt i myter og forestillinger knyttet til påskeharen, og bruker disse som inngang til kreativ utforskning av fantasi, fortelling og visuell skapning. Som introduksjon til verkstedet presenteres en bakgrunnshistorie inspirert av gresk mytologi, der vårgudinnen Ostara forvandler en fugl til en hare – en Lepus – for å hjelpe den å unnslippe jegeren Orion. I denne fortellingen oppstår forbindelsen mellom haren og eggene, ettersom den forvandlede fuglen fortsatt lengter etter å legge egg. Historien åpner for en refleksjon rundt hvordan myter og symboler oppstår, og hvordan tradisjoner kan utvikle seg over tid. Med utgangspunkt i denne fortellingen stilles barna spørsmålet: Hvordan ser egentlig påskeharen ut? Hvis haren opprinnelig var en fugl, kan den kanskje ha helt andre former enn vi vanligvis forestiller oss. Denne åpne problemstillingen danner grunnlaget for verkstedets skapende arbeid. Verkstedet er organisert i to praktiske stasjoner. I den første arbeider deltakerne med collage og bildekomposisjon ved å klippe, lime og kombinere bilder av ulike dyr. Gjennom denne prosessen skaper barna sine egne varianter av «påskedyret» – hybride skapninger der fantasi og visuelle elementer settes sammen til nye figurer. Den andre stasjonen fokuserer på å lage et rede til påskedyret. Med utgangspunkt i halm og en bolle som form arbeider barna med å bygge små reder som dekoreres med ulike materialer som fjær, ull og bånd. Her får deltakerne erfaring med tredimensjonal form og materialbasert arbeid. Gjennom kombinasjonen av fortelling, fantasi og praktisk arbeid inviterer prosjektet barna til å utforske hvordan kunst kan oppstå i møtet mellom myter, materialer og egen forestillingsevne. The Memory Box – The Heart Box is a small work about the artist’s father, who developed dementia, and about how memories gradually become smaller and harder to reach. The box is the size of a matchbox and glows from within. Inside are photographs from the artist’s childhood and from life with her father. On top of the box are small symbols connected to him and to their shared history. The work also includes a letter written by the artist to her father, about what it is like to try to meet him deep inside his own mind. The Memory Box – The Heart Box is a small work about the artist’s father, who developed dementia, and about how memories gradually become smaller and harder to reach. The box is the size of a matchbox and glows from within. Inside are photographs from the artist’s childhood and from life with her father. On top of the box are small symbols connected to him and to their shared history. The work also includes a letter written by the artist to her father, about what it is like to try to meet him deep inside his own mind.
